essie Caldwell Stewart, born 16 May 1876 in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of Charles Stewart & Janet Jessie Laird  Emigrated  to Salt Lake City with her parents ABT 1887.

 

Benjamin Waterfall was born 15 Apr 1876 in St. Paul, Deptford, Kent, England, the son of John Waterfall & Susannah Bacon.

 

A search of the Rootsweb Genealogical site produced the information that Benjamin Waterfall emigrated from England to Salt Lake City, with his parents John Waterfall and Susannah Baker and four siblings.

 

Benjamin Waterfall married Jessie Caldwell Stewart in Salt Lake City on 15 Apr 1899 and they were both members of the Church of Latter Day Saints [LDS].

 

Benjamin & Jessie’s only child was Louis Norman Waterfall born c1902.

 

Benjamin, ID: 1250, died on 28 Jan 1926 in Red Bluff, Tehama County, California, and Jessie, ID: 1872, survived until 27 Jun 1961, in Glendale, Los Angeles, California. Endowment: 09 Nov 1995, Temple : PORTL

 

Two separate listings in Rootsweb, one by a David Curzon and the other by a Kay Olson advise that a grandson, Neal S. Waterfall is still living, and that his wife Margaret is interested in the Waterfall family tree.

 

The advice in Rootsweb also supplies five Ahnentafel Generations of the Waterfalls in England from 1779 in London.

 

The following 1881 British Census lists Benjamin and his siblings, along with his mother as Head; John Waterfall, the father, is missing.  (“Perhaps he had gone ahead, to Utah to pave the way for them to relocate as a family?” wonders Colleen Cahoon, Dec 2008.)

Further advice given, is the marriage of Benjamin’s brother, William Waterfall to Gertie Victoria Elenor Norman, on 14 Sep 1899, in Tooele, Tooele, Utah.  It also states that there are 8 “Living Waterfall” children of this marriage.

The Search For Descendants Of Charles & Janet Stewart.

 

Neal Stewart Waterfall, 23 July 2002.

 

We have finally contacted Neal Stewart Waterfall in Bellevue, Washington, U.S.A., and his wife Margaret.  Neal is the grandson of Jessie Caldwell Stewart and Benjamin Waterfall; Neal is not particularly interested in genealogy, but Margaret is and we hope to exchange our family histories.

 

John Bradbury Robinson, who contacted Neal first by telephone, has e-mailed a number of old family photographs to him, including the mysterious family group of John Stewart and Mary Mosse McMillan.

 

Neal advised JBR that John Caldwell Stewart, brother of Jessie Caldwell Stewart,  married Nell and they had two sons Donald & Ray Stewart.

 

He also said that Dorothy Stewart married Mercer Weed and that they had lived in Indiana; Dorothy died between 1945 & 1950.
